Getting that Christmas feeling…

getting-that-christmas-feeling

Today, 27 November, is the first Sunday in Advent and there is a kind of magic in the build-up to Christmas isn’t there? Decorating the tree, buying and wrapping presents and putting them under it, stringing the lights along the mantelpiece and fixing the wreath to the front door all form part of the preparations in our house. The build up to the first Christmas was certainly magical too. To begin with, as if one wasn’t enough, there were TWO miraculous pregnancies. One of these was a bouncing baby boy, John, who recognised Jesus’ mother while he was still just a foetus. Then there was an all-time hit worship song, Mary’s Magnificat, still sung in various forms by churches all over the world. Christmas wouldn’t be complete in some households without family trouble and John’s was no exception – all over his name! Finally, a deaf and dumb man preaches a sermon.  These events make the tree and wreath seem rather dull in comparison…
